Two dudes on a hike.

They get lost.

They try to find their way back.

Quite the change of pace for the director (Gus Van Sant) and two of the stars (Matt Damon and Casey Affleck) of Good Will Hunting.

Long unbroken W I D E S C R E E N shots.

Near silence.

A little music by Arvo Pärt

Some inconsequential smalltalk between Damon and Affleck.

The movie’s about nothing, really.

Hardly any introspection or this-means-something pretense.

Just two dudes walking in the desert.

Achingly beautiful cinematography, for sure.

But those who hail this as a masterpiece are pushing it.

“Gerry” is an amusing, sometimes rivetingly uneventful curiosity, nothing more.
