(23 Jul) Tango & Cash (1989, Andrei Konchalovsky) 35
[ I hadn't seen this movie in at least 15 years, but when Danny McBride told me that Seth Rogen had said that this was a direct influence of "Pineapple Express" (sorry for the namedropping!), I just had to revisit it and see to what degree this was the case. Honestly, I don't see it. Sure, "Pineapple" has got the buddy comedy and 1980s action flick thing going on but, from "48 Hours" to "Lethal Weapon", there are tons more where that came from, none of it is specific to "Tango & Cash". What's more, this movie just isn't very good, nor is it entertainingly bad. While it has its moments (the prison escape comes to mind), on the whole, it's rather generic and forgettable. For diehard fans of Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell only. ]
