(4 Feb) Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World (2016, Werner Herzog)
[ First, I can never get enough of Herzog’s voiceover narration. Then this documentary explores a fascinating/scary subject, the endless progress of technology and the Internet, which we depend on more and more… What if it crashes? What if it becomes unpredictable? ]

(15 Feb) Montréal la blanche (2016, Bachir Bensaddek)60
[ There’s a nice sense of time and place, i.e. Christmas Eve in Montreal, mostly from the inside of a taxi cab. I also like how diverse it is, with Algerian protagonists and supporting characters of various ethnicities. Now, it kinda does feel like the theatrical adaptation it is, it’s pretty slow and static, and not every detail of the plot holds up. But it’s a promising enough debut for Bachir Bensaddek. ]
