Funnymen Mike Myers and Dana Carvey reprise their roles as goofy slackers Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar, who’ve moved their public access TV show from the basement of Wayne’s basement to a loft in a warehouse, but who still deal in stupidity. But mostly, they still enjoy guiltless pleasures such as going to see Aerosmith in concert and goofing around in the GarthMobile. Wayne is still dating Cassandra (Tia Carrere), who’s now recording her first album with the help of a suspicious record producer, played by the hilariously creepy Christopher Walken. Garth too finds the woman of his dreams (Kim Basinger), while Wayne… Well, Wayne’s screwed up. He met Jim Morrison in dreams and the late The Doors frontman told him that the purpose of his life was to put together a big concert in Aurora. It won’t be that easy, though…
Once again, here’s a great comedy for us to enjoy. Myers wrote another screenplay packed with insane ideas, funny situations, spoofs (most notably of the finale of “The Graduate”) and other weird stuff. Many scenes stand out, like a dead-on parody of kung-fu movies and a hilarious scene in which Wayne and the gang dance to YMCA in a gay bar. The dialogue is also really inventive, sharp and funny. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey are still likable and fun as the not-that-Dynamic Duo, and though this sequel doesn’t feel as original and fresh as the first film, it’s still an entertaining movie full of funny stuff and rock & roll. One of the things that make the “Wayne’s World” movies superior to a lot of other comedies is the enthusiasm of the leads, who really look like they’re having a blast, strutting around and doing immature but fun stuff like screaming Schwing! whenever a babe walks nearby. Mike Myers fans won’t be disappointed.
